DAHLGREN, IL (KFVS) – A miner has died after an accident early Saturday morning at the Hamilton County coal mine #1.
An employee with Hamilton County Coal, LLC stated that John Ditterline, an employee with S and L Industries, was found in an underground mine by coworkers at 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 Ditterline was found pinned between an air lock door and the coal rib.
Employees tried to resuscitate him on scene until an ambulance arrived on scene.
Ditterline later was pronounced dead at a hospital at 4:45 a.m.

Hamilton County Coal confirms death of miner
HAMILTON CO., Ill. — Officials with Hamilton County Coal say a tragic accident caused the death of a miner in Mine #1 near Dahlgren.
Coworkers discovered the man pinned between an underground air lock door and a coal rib around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Employees tried to resuscitate him, but at 4:45 a.m. he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
