A Bloomfield man lost his life this afternoon in a coal mining accident in a Sunrise Coal mine near Oaktown.
34 year-old Jason M Williams lost his life inside the mine. No information about the cause of death has been released at this time. Knox County Coroner Brian Hagen says an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
The case is being investigated by the Knox County Coroner’s office, Indiana State Police, Indiana Bureau of Mines, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

Bloomfield Man Dies In Mining Accident
(OAKTOWN) – A Bloomfield man lost his life Friday afternoon in a coal mining accident in a Sunrise Coal mine near Oaktown.
According to the Knox County Coroner’s Office, 34 year-old Jason Williams was found deceased inside the mine.
The representative from the mine says the accident happened while Williams was driving a “mantrip” underground in Oaktown Mine 1.
No information about the cause of death has been released at this time. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday and those results are pending.
The case is being investigated by the Knox County Coroner’s office, Indiana State Police, Indiana Bureau of Mines, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
