Cervical Cancer Awareness Month – Cervical cancer was once a leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. Currently, it ranks 3rd in frequency for both diagnosis and cause of death among the gynecologic cancers and 14th for all cancers affecting U.S. women. Between 1955 and 1992, both incidence and mortality rates declined dramatically due to the introduction and implementation of Pap test screening. Most invasive cervical cancers are found in women who have never been screened or have not had a Pap test within the past 5 years.
