CG sent me this picture the other day with a comment, “check out the anchor being used here.” I hope you can see it, if not blow the picture to see what “RISK” really looks like. My “Silly People Saturday” blurbs usually catch people doing things that they knew better about doing or not doing, but I wonder if this guy actually knows that a handrail is NOT an acceptable tie off point? Does he know what impact his fall would have on the man lift? Does he know his fall would more than likely create a fall for his teammate as well?
NOTE: An anchor point is required to hold 5,000 pounds per person attached. Those handrails are more than likely rated at or around the 200 pound requirement for handrails. Not 100% certain on the capacity, but ~200 is a far cry from 5,000
IGNORANCE (lack of knowing) is not an acceptable hierarchy of control. Let’s make certain we know AND share our knowledge with others. Today is our next opportunity.
