How do we see ourselves? It’s a well-known fact that confidence leads to competence. It’s important we build safety confidence through understanding “WHY” a task is necessary in addition to the traditional “What” task is necessary. As children we might have asked our parents “why” and received the all too familiar “because we said so” response, but that’s not a confidence builder at all. Understanding “why” enables us to know what to expect in the event/action. Knowing what to expect can help prevent surprises that eventually lead to incidents and/or injuries.
Building confidence is our role as an individual for ourselves through learning and a team role for us as teachers. After all, we’re in this together; we don’t win at ZERO until our team wins at ZERO.
Knowledge is power – confidence builds competence.
