We’ve all heard about and probably seen the safety pyramid before. It’s known by different names; however, it teaches one consistent lesson that we all need to know and understand. Sure, there are other thoughts and theories surrounding incident prevention and management; however none better than this. Here’s how the pyramid/triangle is spoken: For every 300 near misses – 29 of them result in minor injuries, usually requiring care greater than the level of first aid (aka OSHA RECORDABLES) and 1 of them is debilitating or perhaps even fatal.

The lesson is easy, control the little things found to contribute to the “frequency of incident” and we’ll see fewer injuries. In short, fewer incidents = fewer injuries. Of course, we still need to identify and control the serious injury potentials as well, but our efforts should be on doing the little things right. That results in our ability to see more clearly and work more safely.

Thanks for the share, PT!
