How do safety leaders think? First and foremost we think about the task we’re preparing to do. Whether it’s walking, working, digging, or driving; we need to make certain we’re first – understanding the intent of the action. A simple plan for this is through asking Who, What, Where, When, and Why. If we can ask and answer these five questions we’re ready to make our plan.
Thinking like a safety leader helps to prioritize as well. It’s like my good friend Mike Furr once told me, “everything is important; however, everything is not urgent”. So let’s ask the questions, create the plan with associated timing, and then let’s work the plan.
