LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — Four mine employees were burned at a Logan County mining site after a propane tank exploded during a cookout.
West Virginia Miners’ Safety and Training Director Eugene White, who was on the scene, said the tank exploded around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday during a cookout at the Greenbrier Mineral Saunders Prep Plant in the Buffalo Creek area.
One of the employees was airlifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital, according to MHST communications director Lawrence Messina.
The other three workers were taken to Logan Regional Medical Center and two have since been released.
“As the accident occurred at a mining site, the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating and has taken the tank for testing,” Messina said.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene as well.
Logan 911 dispatchers said the Buffalo Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Logan County EMS also responded.
