By now you might have already seen this picture floating around in various social media circles, but if you haven’t – it’s a disaster waiting to happen! Where do we start? Hopefully everyone knows that this is wrong in every way, shape, form, and fashion. Those hand rails were not intended to be a ladder nor to be stood upon. Not sure where the picture came from originally, but can we relate to this in some form or fashion in our workplaces or maybe even our homes? Using the right tools for the job is something we’ve talked about before. How about knowing how to use the right tools for the job? That is clearly the situation in this picture. He has the right tool/equipment and either he doesn’t know it, he doesn’t know how to use it, he’s not allowed to use it, or he just forgotten to use it; whatever the reason, he has elected to increase the risk on the task.
When the incident occurs and it eventually will with actions like these, everyone will say “this can’t even happen again.” Our job is to see that it never happens in the first place.
ASK, INFORM, SCREAM, SHOUT, COMMAND, DEMAND, BEG, or do whatever else it might take to be the difference in someone’s life. Silly people need safety too!
