Tragic accident claims life of young miner at Pennsylvania quarry
Kerry Clines
A tragic accident at H&K Group‘s Birdsboro Quarry in Pennsylvania took the life of a young miner late Wednesday night, Aug. 22, 2018, WFMZ TV News reports. Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene of the accident shortly before midnight and found a man trapped in a conveyor belt approximately 50 feet above the ground. Officials told the news agency that the victim, 29-year-old Brent Cosner, had deceased before emergency crews arrived on the scene.
A crew from the Birdsboro-Union Fire Department had to disassemble multiple frame components of the conveyor to gain access and free the victim, which officials told the news agency was “a very difficult task in an extremely challenging environment.” The work required the use of the ladder truck to lift supplies and overhead lighting to the catwalk, as well as a ropes system for the stokes basket needed to lift the supplies and lower the victim to the ground.
Our heart goes out to the young man’s family, friends, and co-workers.
