RAPIDAN, Va. — An Orange County man is dead following a mining accident at a quarry in Culpeper County. The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported at the Jet Mist Quarry near Rapidan around 2 p.m. Thursday. Officials said 26-year-old Rony Ordonez, of Orange, was killed when a rock fell on top of him.
Deputies said his body was recovered around 8:45 p.m.
Thursday, nearly seven hours later. It appeared the quarry was operating as usual on Friday, as two workers were seen leaving the site on heavy equipment. Ordonez’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Manassas for an autopsy.
