Safety Tidbits. Click here for this week’s Safety Tidbits containing information on Ergonomics.

Ergonomic conditions are disorders of the soft tissues often caused by factors such as overexertion while lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling or reaching, among other causes. -Ergonomic conditions are best dealt with when caught early.  If you are experiencing what may be an ergonomics issue, notify your supervisor immediately.  Treatment is most effective when the conditions are reported at the onset. Waiting too long can result in permanent damage. Know the signs of ergonomic conditions:
• Pain    • Swelling    • Numbness    • Tingling    • Tenderness    • Loss of grip strength.

You Can… Make a Difference!

A co-worker send an email saying that she appreciated tidbits and was looking for a story about believing in yourself to share with her son. He was a good baseball player but had been getting harassed by teammates telling him he was a poor hitter. He started to believe he was no good at the game and his on-field performance suffered, reflecting his lack of confidence.

I sent my co-worker the following poem and the Keep Your Dreams story (attached) to share with her son…

You can Fly If You Want to

Denis E. Waitley with Darol Wagstaff

You can fly if you try, you can soar with the eagles if you dare, or you can run with the turkeys who don’t care.

You can be a total winner even if you’re a beginner, if you think you can you can, if you think you can, you can.

You can wear the gold medallion, you can ride your own Black Stallion, if you think you can you can, if you think you can, you can.

You can raise your C’s up to A’s and your F’s to D’s maybe even be in the school play, if you think you can you can, if you think you can, you can.

It’s not your talent or your gift at birth, it’s not your bank book that determines your worth. It isn’t in the color of your skin but it’s your attitude that lets you win.

You can go beyond exhaustion, you can win the marathon in Boston, if you think you can you can, if you think you can, you can.

You could have finished off Darth Vadar, you can out debate Ralph Nadar, you can profit through inflation and you can direct this nation, if you think you can, you can.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve won before, it makes no difference what the half-time score. It’s never over until the final gun if there was one so you keep on trying and you’ll find that you’ve won.

You grab your dream and then believe it, go out and work and you’ll achieve it if you think you can, you can, if you think you can you can.

You believe in God and you’re half-way there, believe in your family and your country and you’re three-quarters there, and then you believe in yourself and you’re nine-tenths there. Believe and you’ll become that by which men and women live…which is the most powerful thing of all; and that is FAITH – it is the moving cause of all action.

Here is what she sent me the following week.

‘Wayne,

I just have to share with you that I told my son last week about these emails and stories. I told him that is was so important to believe in yourself and what you believe about yourself is very powerful. Before it was his turn to bat at last week’s game, I reminded him to believe that he could do it. He hit a double in that game and was so happy!

Well, he played again last night and at his first time to bat, he hit an over-the-fence home run!!! He was almost in tears as he rounded 3rd base because he was so excited! Of all the games that we have played/watched both last season and this season, we had not seen a kid hit it over the fence. Now he believes he can do it every time he gets up to bat…..amazing what belief can do! Thanks!’

————We must never forget the POWER of Our Words! The words we choose can bring people up or tear them down. Simple words like ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ make a difference. Taking time to recognize or praise a friend, family member or co-worker can change a life. Make time to let those special people in your life know they are special… It will make a difference!

Safety Wayne

Thanks, WK
