The leading cause of poisoning deaths is drug overdoses. 75% of overdoses involve prescription medications. More than 60% of adults with substance dependence are employed full time.
-Keep all medications out of reach of children. Secure opiates, narcotics with generic names like OxyContin, Vicoden, Percocet, Lortab, Norco, etc. These drugs all have a street value and are often stolen & sold for quick cash or used for a quick high.
-Use medications only as prescribed – abuse can damage the stomach, liver or kidneys
-Read the warnings and never mix drugs multiple prescription drugs without a physician’s approval and remember drugs & alcohol don’t mix.
-Dispose of unused medications, properly, to prevent others from getting access to them
-Prescriptions meds should only be used by those they are prescribed for, period. And remember, if you take a medicine prescribed to someone else or give someone a med. prescribed to you – one random drug test and someone could lose their job!
