Safety Tidbits: Safety is 24/7
Remember Safety is 24/7/365
Don’t think you can let your guard down when you punch out for the day. Your shift may be over but Safety issues are a 24/7 concern and you need to keep your guard up.
In fact, studies have shown that you are more likely to get injured off the job. Approximately 70% of all deaths and more than 55% of all injuries happen away from work. Home-related accidents account for an estimated 20,000 deaths and 25 million injuries annually.
-Do you follow proper safety procedures at home?
-Are you using the proper tools and equipment? The kids are watching
-Do you wear PPE at home? You only have two eyes – wear those safety glasses…and the face shield, the ear plugs, gloves, etc.!
Physical/emotional suffering causes immeasurable grief to loved ones. Grief often leads to anger, blame and stress which can wreck relationships. Click here for a copy this week’s full Safety Tibits.
Chose words wisely
A farmer insulted his neighbor. Realizing his mistake, he went to the preacher to ask for forgiveness.
The preacher told him to take a bag of feathers and drop them in the center of town. The farmer did as he was told. Then the preacher asked him to go and collect the feathers and put them back in the bag. The farmer tried but couldn’t as the feathers had all blown away.
When he returned with the empty bag, the preacher said, “The same thing is true about your words. You dropped them rather easily but you cannot retrieve them, so be very careful in choosing your words.”
Insults and harsh words, spoken in anger, always leave a mark on those who speak them and those who hear them, too. This often leads to more anger and more harsh words. Life is too short to be negative – negative thoughts and words consume massive amounts of energy. Use your energy in a positive manner – Build people up, we all do a good enough job of tearing ourselves down.
Remember: Harsh words can harden hearts that are softer than silk, but soft words can soften the hearts that are harder than rock… so choose your words carefully!
