Razor Knife Safety Tips
Many accidents have occurred while using razor knives to cut curtain, belt, cables etc. Here are a few tips to help prevent those from occurring.
• Properly seat the blade and make sure the knife is closed when not in use.
• Use a sharp blade. Dull blades require more force and are more likely to slip than sharp ones. Change blades whenever it starts to tear rather than cut.
• Use a self retractable blade that retracts when pressure is not applied.
• Wear safety glasses when working with razor knives.
• Wear cut resistant gloves or sleeves.
• Keep your free hand away from the line of cut.
• Never make cuts toward your body.
• When making cuts on a surface above or below you, stand or kneel to one side of the line of the cut.
• Don’t bend or apply side loads to blades (don’t use them to open cans or pry loose objects).
• Make several passes on a cut instead of applying a lot of uncontrollable pressure on a single cut through thick materials.
