Poster: PPE – 5 Seemingly Simple Things

Personal Protective Equipment, more commonly referred to as PPE, is our last line of defense to known/recognized hazards. That being said, it’s critical that we use the right stuff correctly to achieve the level of protection we need and expect. Using it most of time isn’t going to protect us all of the time. Here’s what we have to do to be effective:

  1. Evaluate/test the condition, area, or task.
  2. Using the hierarchy of controls, attempt to eliminate, engineer, or administrate the hazards away or to an acceptable level of risk.
  3. Select the right PPE and trial it to ensure it’s not only the most right for purchase, but also the most right for comfort and effectiveness.
  4. Read about it and train about it: considering all the requirements and limitations for use, storage, and cleaning.
  5. WEAR IT 100% correctly – 100% of the time when working in or around the recognized hazard(s).

Our safety is our responsibility! It doesn’t matter what company, supervisor, or manager we work for; the main question is, do we care about ourselves and each other enough to make safety happen? Are we making safety an intentional part of every task, action, and activity; both at work and at home? Hazardous conditions are all around us and in everything we do; our duty is to identify, evaluate, midigate, and control in order to PREVENT incidents and injuries.

TODAY is a great day for ZERO!

Thanks for the share, PT!
