What drives us? What makes us really want to do the right things or what keeps us from wanting to do wrong? All important questions as we sit back and think about safety as well as with life in general. Our rewards around safety are plentiful and obvious when we get to go home without injury; so I won’t spend a lot of time there this morning. I want to focus this blurb on the consequences of poor performance. First and foremost, when we fail to plan – we plan to fail. Poor planning is where poor performance begins. Additionally, thoughts like; “we’ve always done it this way,” “that won’t work,” “let’s take a short cut,” “it’s okay, it will only take a minute” or “it’s okay just this one-time” are all stumbling blocks to ZERO INJURIES.
We have to believe ZERO INJURIES is possible! We have to want ZERO! It won’t come easy either – it requires us to think about the small things, the small jobs, and the seemingly simple things as much and as thoroughly as we do the bigger ones.
Poor work ethic and/or unsafe performance are not or cannot be acceptable to us. The consequences of unsafe behaviors and unsafe actions are injuries – AND THAT’S NOT WHAT WE’RE ABOUT!
Today is an excellent opportunity to sustain ZERO.
Thanks for the share, PT!
