What are we afraid of? There is nothing wrong with a little healthy fear of danger, hazards, getting hurt, and more. Fear heightens our attention regarding the event – whatever it may be. We’re on-guard more and in that state we’re less likely to get surprised and in-turn less likely to have an incident or injury. So fear is a good thing, right? Just like every other state of mind, once recognized fear can be every bit as much controlled as it can leave us feeling out of control. I believe it was FDR that said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” and he was spot on.
So with safety, hazard recognition and elimination requires the same attention to detail. Let’s be on-guard for hazards and in those actions we’ll find fewer surprises and reduced incident/injury rates.
ZERO is our expectation and our target – don’t let anyone tell us differently. Our journey continues today…
