How can we become the best of the best? How can we be the most safe steel company in the world? It begins with a belief in ourselves. We have to believe that ALL our activities can (and will) be done safely. We have to commit to NEVER compromising safety. We have to willing to fail – BUT FAIL SAFELY. That means we have to consider all possibilities and plan safety accordingly. Some of the easiest and most practical things are to keep our eyes and minds on task. That way we can see and respond safely to a failure. Another is to stay out of the line of fire. Lastly, we should maintain our balance, traction, and grip.
Failures will occur and our desire to remain injury-free must be intentionally planned and we all need to be learning through the failed actions of others. Failure is only negative when we allow an injury to occur or when we don’t share the details in an attempt to prevent recurrence.
