What are we doing for others when they fail? Are we hammering them relentlessly by telling them what they already know or are we offering a clear thought and/or some guidance that might help them get back on track? I know we all praise success well and there is great value in that; however, there is also value in encouraging those who might not have hit the mark. How we respond is critical, especially if the would-be recipient of our feedback values our opinion.
It’s just like with leadership and for the sake of this blurb – safety leadership. As safety leaders we have to comment, good and bad – one of our core values is that we believe that continuous improvement is essential for our ongoing success AND that improvement requires practice, performance, and feedback.
Thanks for the share, PT!
