OSHA Releases 2023 Injury and Illness Data April 19, 2024

OSHA Releases 2023 Injury and Illness Data April 19, 2024: Safety + Health Magazine

Washington — OSHA has published the 2023 data collected under its revised rules for annual injury and illness data submission.

Among that data is Form 300A information from more than 375,000 establishments. Partial data also is available from more than 850,000 submissions of OSHA Forms 300 and 301.

Effective Jan. 1, OSHA required establishments with 100 or more employees in some high-hazard industries to annually submit data from Forms 300 and 301 – in addition to Form 300A – by March 2.

“The 2023 300A data reflects data collection changes beginning in 2024,” the agency says. “For example, OSHA added an establishment ID to link the Summary Data to new Case Detail Data.

“Currently, the Case Detail Data are limited to categorical variables reported from the Form 300 and 301, as well as some summary establishment information from the Form 300A.”

OSHA is expected to make more data available in the near future, following a review to identify and delete personally identifiable information.

“Providing access to injury and illness data will help identify unsafe conditions and workplace hazards that may cause occupational injuries and illnesses,” the agency says in an April 18 press release. “Recognizing these hazards will help identify ways to control or prevent them and reduce injuries and illnesses. This information will improve research on the occurrence, prevention and control of workplace hazards, injuries and illness types.”
