OSHA Awards Safety Star to US Army Supply Division

Department of Labor recognizes US Army Supply Division at Washington’s Joint Base Lewis-McChord as a workplace safety ‘Star’

JBLM Installation Supply and Service Division earns elite status for ensuring worker safety.

SEATTLE – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has recognized Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s Installation Supply and Service Division in Washington as a workplace safety “Star” employer in the agency’s Voluntary Protection Programs.

The VPP Star is OSHA’s highest level of recognition of employers and workers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and kept injury and illness rates below the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ industry averages. The programs bring company management, site employees and OSHA together to work proactively to focus on hazard prevention and control, worksite analysis, training, management commitment and worker involvement to prevent fatalities, injuries and illnesses.

“Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s Installation Supply and Service Division exemplifies what management and unions can accomplish when they work together for workers’ safety and health,” said OSHA Regional Administrator Dorinda Hughes in Seattle. “OSHA salutes this employer for their proven dedication and commitment to keeping workers safe after recording zero workplace safety and health incidents or related days away from work in the last three years.”

JBLM Installation Supply and Service Division employs about 83 people.

OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs recognize and promote effective worksite-based safety and health management systems.

OSHA’s website includes information on developing a workplace safety and health program that applies to all workplaces and offers free work-specific tools.
