Waist belts should only be used as 'positioning devices' that can prevent a fall in the first place. Besides causing injury in a the fall itself, the maximum tolerable suspention time in a waist belt is only 2 minutes. Not much time for a rescue. (A full body harness is said to have a tolerable suspension time of 15 minutes.)
