Jack Stands must be of sufficient carrying capacity to handle the anticipated load. Never depend on the hydraulic jack alone to provide support for equipment while you work on it. 6x6x30 oak blocks are often used for cribbing, but must be free of knots and defects (see Caterpillar video). Anything used for equipment blocking should be inspected for defects or damage prior to use. Refer to the equipment manufacturer's maintenance manuals for proper placement of all blocking – your life depends on your doing this correctly.
