How do we determine the need for a medical check-up? Do we do preventative maintenance on ourselves or do wait until we feel something “wrong” or a proverbial light goes on? Sure some of our aches and pains may come from age or exertion, but honestly, how do we know when to call/visit the expert. There is not an easy answer to this question for most of us, but here’s a start – learn our bodies. Pay attention to how we feel on a good day and then pay even closer attention to the details surrounding an ache and/or pain. Is it diet related? Believe it or not, some foods can react in ways that might make us feel like we’re dying. Could it be musculoskeletal? Consider what we did leading up to the pain, even a seemingly small thing can result in big pain/discomfort.
I’m an advocate of self-treating/nursing something obvious, but when we don’t know or the pain continues, it’s time to see the expert. Remember, we owe it to ourselves and our families to stay healthy.
Health is a huge part of safety! Let’s make certain we’re giving it an equal share of our attention.
Thanks to PT and JL for the share!
