Man dies after getting crushed by limestone at Indiana County Quarry
YOUNG TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) — A man is dead after he became trapped under limestone at a quarry in Indiana County. The first calls came into Indiana County 911 around 10:25 Friday morning of a man reportedly trapped under tons of stone. When first responders got to the scene, they quickly realized this was not a rescue but a recovery operation.
“He was inside the hopper and the gravel was loaded into the hopper with him in it,” said Iselin/West Lebanon VFC Chief Bryan Schirato. After significant effort, the 30-year-old victim’s body was eventually recovered. The tragedy is taking its toll on both rescuers and fellow employees. “It’s pretty tough. We have a state police chaplain on the scene,” Schirato said. The man’s name hasn’t been released. His cause and manner of death will be determined after an autopsy, police said. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating. “We do not suspect any foul play this was just a tragic workplace accident today,” Trooper Clifford Greenfield said.
