Keep Construction Sites Safe During Winter: NYC Has Tips: Safety & Health Magazine– December 28, 2023
New York — Remove all snow, ice and other debris from construction jobsites to help reduce slip and trip hazards.
That’s a tip from the New York City Department of Buildings, which wants construction contractors to operate safely during wintry weather.
More tips:
Secure building material, netting, ladders, chutes and other items that may be affected by winter storms.
Ensure temporary heating equipment used at the jobsite complies with relevant construction and fire codes.
Follow National Fire Protection Association guidance for preventing sprinkler and standpipe lines from freezing.
Inspect and properly store cranes and derricks that are scheduled to be inactive for at least 30 days.
“The winter months can cause serious maintenance issues for properties and construction sites, but with proper preparation, these issues can be minimized, if not avoided altogether,” DOB First Deputy Commissioner Kazimir Vilenchik said in a press release.
