Announcing our new campaign:
Stop Hitting Kids in the Head
A single concussion can change the course of a child’s life. Repetitive head impacts children receive playing contact sports can cause CTE and derail their future. To prevent both concussions and CTE, it’s time to stop allowing children with vulnerable, developing brains to be hit in the head hundreds of times a year in youth sports.
It’s a message parents, coaches, and sports organizations urgently need to hear. It’s why we launched our new campaign: Stop Hitting Kids in the Head.
The goal of the campaign is to eliminate repetitive head impacts in youth sports by 2026. We’re especially focused on soccer, American football, Canadian football, Australian football, and rugby. The research is clear – not only do repetitive head impacts cause CTE but suffering a concussion in youth sports increases risk for mental health disorders and suicide.
“Now that we have no doubt CTE is caused by repetitive head impacts in sports, it’s time to protect children,” said Dr. Chris Nowinski, CLF co-founder and CEO. “The idea that children playing sports are being exposed to a life-long degenerative brain disease is simply not acceptable anywhere in the world, especially when the solution is so simple: Stop Hitting Kids in the Head.”
We announced the campaign this week as part of our CLF Australia launch. Stop Hitting Kids in the Head was featured across national and international news outlets.
