Heat Stress Mine-o-gram 4-06

Bob, I’m an EMT and this is the basic we have added to our protocall.

MINE-O-GRAM

HEAT STRESS SEASON IS HERE

*GATOR AID & SPORT DRINKS*

IT IS RECCOMMENDED –THAT IF YOU DRINK COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE ELECTROLYTE DRINKS (GATOR AID) TO REPLACE BODY FLUIDS LOST DUE TO HEAT EXPOSURE, THAT

  1. ALWAYS DRINK EQUAL AMOUNTS OF WATER (EXAMPLE ) DRINK 12 OUNCES OF GATOR AID—DRINK 12 OUNCES WATER

[THIS WILL HELP KEEP YOUR BODY’S ELECTROLYTES IN BALANCE AND HELP PREVENT HEAT STRESS]

  1. IF YOU ARE WORKING A HOT ENVIORMENT YOU SHOULD DRINK 1 OUNCE OF WATER PER 1 POUND OF BODY WEIGHT DAILY.

(EXAMPLE) IF YOU WEIGH 160 POUNDS YOU SHOULD DRINK ABOUT 5 QUARTS OF WATER A DAY (160 OUNCES)

REFERENCE

8 OUNCES=1CUP   16 OUNCES =2CUPS=1 PINT

2 PINTS = 1 QUART=32 OUNCES

2 QUARTS = ½ GALLON =64 OUNCES

4 QUARTS = 1 GALLON=128 OUNCES

WHEN WORKING HOT ENVIORMENTS DO NOT DEPEND ON THIRST TO DRIVE FLUID INTAKE. YOU SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO FREQUENTLY TAKE SMALL (EQUAL) AMOUNTS OF WATER/GATOR AID EVERY 15-20 MINUTES. AVOID EXCESSIVE CAFFIENE AND ALCOHOL.

Take Frequent breaks to let your body cool down and acclimate

EMPLOYEES ON A SALT-RESTRICTED DIET SHOULD CONSULT WITH MEDICAL BEFORE CONSUMING SPORT DRINKS.

Thanks for the share, HL (The other HL)!
