There are many laser systems available that can measure the highwall face in great detail. There are also systems that can also easily survey each blast hole and quickly produce a 3D picture of the holes and the face. This is very helpful, in fact required for many quarrying operations, to ensure adequate burden on the front row of blast holes to minimize excessive rock movement. You can modify the explosive load accordingly in each front blast hole. There are also radio frequency targets you can place in the blast holes, which are located after the blast so you can measure direction and extent of rock movement. Lot of info in the journal:
