Silver Spring, MD – An online resource offers guidance for employers and employees on preventing heat illnesses in the workplace.
The Center for Construction Research and Training, also known as CPWR, outlined the project during a July 22 webinar titled, “Cooling Clothing and Personal Protective Equipment.”
One strategy workers can use to cope with high temperatures is to wear cooling clothing and PPE, the organization advises. Cooling clothing includes vests that may be placed in a refrigerator or submerged in ice water for one to 20 minutes before workers don the items.
The guidance comprises one of three solutions to heat and sun exposure. CPWR also offers information about tents and shade canopies as an engineering control solution, as well as heat stress programs as an administrative control solution.
