2018 Fatal Summary Updated:
2018 Coal #11 – Preliminary: On Saturday, December 29, 2018, a 25-year-old contract miner drowned when the dredge he was operating sank.
2018 Coal #12 – Preliminary: On Thursday, November 29, 2018, a 50-year-old mechanic with 28 years experience received a head injury while examining a valve body in the compartment of a company service truck. While the mechanic was looking at a hydraulic valve for the crane on the back of the truck, a hydraulic fitting blew a piece of 1/8 inch steel or copper line from the valve body penetrating the mechanic’s head. The victim died from his injuries on December 30, 2018.
